Teaching methods at Dalskóli
Dalskóli emphasizes individualized teaching and student learning. Teaching aims to help students achieve the intended goals. Teaching helps students acquire knowledge, understanding, and skills in specific areas. School activities emphasize diverse work methods and teaching approaches. Teaching methods and practices consider students' age, development, and abilities.
Formative learning
Dalskóli has implemented formative learning and has been a leader in this implementation along with four other schools in the city.
The foundation of formative learning aims to create a positive learning culture that leads to success for all students. Formative learning in the spirit of Shirley Clark is based on John Hattie's educational research, which examined teaching methods used by the most successful schools. This research is based on international education studies.
Learning culture
To create a learning culture that leads to success for all, teachers and students need to cultivate a growth mindset as a foundation. We apply Carol Dweck's writings and methods for this purpose. Formative learning ensures that learning objectives for each lesson are clear to all students, and that all students have opportunities to discuss learning challenges and goals while also having time to think.
Learning partners
We systematically use learning partners to ensure that everyone in the learning group achieves reflection and dialogue. In formative learning, students also participate in setting criteria for task completion.
